Enclosed 3D printers: pros, cons, all models
An enclosed 3D printer has an enclosure around the build volume. This keeps the heat from the print bed inside, stops draughts reaching the print, and allows odours to be filtered. For PLA and PETG you do not need an enclosure. For ABS, ASA, nylon and PC, however, it is almost a must.

What to look for?
- For ABS and ASA a passive enclosure is usually enough, for nylon and PC a heated chamber is better.
- An activated carbon or HEPA filter reduces odours and particles.
- Open the door or lid when printing PLA, otherwise heat builds up.
- Advantages over open printers: less warping with ABS and ASA, fewer draughts, often quieter, hot parts and moving axes are covered.
- Cons: usually more expensive, larger and heavier, maintenance on the print head is somewhat more awkward, and without a filter the enclosure is only a heat shield.
