PETG HF
A PETG from Bambu Lab developed for fast printing. HF stands for High Flow, meaning high throughput.
Explained in more detail
PETG HF is a Bambu Lab product name for a PETG whose formulation is designed for high print speeds. According to the product description at the retailer 3DJake, it prints at 230 to 260 °C nozzle temperature and 65 to 75 °C bed temperature and has a matt surface. Otherwise it behaves like PETG: tougher than PLA, resistant to water and UV light, suitable for outdoor parts. Like any PETG, it absorbs moisture and should be dried before printing. Other manufacturers offer fast-printing PETG under their own names.
Where does the term come from?
HF stands for high flow. It means that more material per second can flow through the nozzle than with conventional PETG.
In practice
- For PETG HF, Bambu Lab specifies part cooling of 0 to 80%.
- As with PETG, on smooth PEI use a glue stick as a release layer or choose a textured plate.
- Dry before printing, as the product description also recommends.
- On printers from other manufacturers, test the maximum volumetric flow yourself instead of adopting it from someone else's profile.
Not to be confused
PETG HF is not a different plastic from PETG but a formulation for high speed. Do not confuse it with high-flow nozzles or high-flow hotends: they also increase throughput, but they are hardware.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use PETG HF on any printer?
Yes, the material is not tied to Bambu Lab printers. However, only the Bambu Lab AMS reads the parameters stored in the spool's RFID chip, and on other printers you set temperature and speed yourself.
Is PETG HF worse than normal PETG?
Not across the board. It is designed for speed and has a matt surface. What counts are the values in the data sheet and how fast your printer actually prints.
