Einstar: all devices
Einstar is the consumer brand of the Chinese 3D scanning specialist SHINING 3D and offers handheld scanners for hobbyists and small businesses, including Einstar, Einstar 2, the standalone scanner VEGA and the laser scanner Rockit. The brand benefits from the metrology experience of its parent company, which has been building professional scanners since 2004. Einstar is interesting for makers looking for a scanner with a German point of contact, a euro shop and official warranty handling.

History
SHINING 3D was founded in 2004 in Hangzhou, entered metrology in 2009 and has been listed on the Chinese over-the-counter market since August 2014 (code 830978); according to VoxelMatters the company plans a listing on the Beijing stock exchange and reported revenue of around 221 million US dollars for 2025. The first Einstar scanner was presented in September 2022, with three infrared projectors, a colour camera and the EXStar software, explicitly as an affordable entry point for beginners and creatives. The brand page says differently that Einstar released its first product in 2021 and was set up as its own subsidiary brand in 2024. Today Einstar offers, besides its own devices, EinScan models such as Rigil and Trak and the software EXModel and EXMeasure. SHINING 3D cites over 400 patents, more than 20% of revenue for R&D and over 200,000 scanners sold; these are manufacturer's figures.
Customer support and warranty
According to the manufacturer, support runs via a ticket system (support.einstar.com), wiki, FAQ, forum and one-to-one video calls. There is a German shop (eu.einstar.com/de) with prices in euros, a Stuttgart phone number and the shop address einstar_shop@shining3d.com; behind it is Shining 3D Technology GmbH in Stuttgart. The manufacturer's warranty is 12 months, extendable to up to three years, and applies only when bought from an official Einstar store; with unauthorised retailers the device is treated as out of warranty, while the seller's statutory warranty remains unaffected. Repairs are said to take 7 to 14 working days after receipt. On Trustpilot, einstar.com has no reviews (as of October 2026), and the profile has not been taken over.
Environment and commitment
Einstar names an academy, a forum, events and partner programmes, but these are sales and community offerings; no concrete information is given on ecological or social engagement.
Criticism and problems
No major documented problems found. We are not aware of any recalls or official notices concerning Einstar scanners (as of 10/2026). In the manufacturer's forum there are reports of devices freezing in the middle of a scan (for example the VEGA, March 2025, despite a powerful PC); support refers users there to a ticket and device logs, and no public solution is documented. Whether this is a widespread problem is not documented.
