History
The roots lie with Orion Motor Tech, which according to OMTech brought the affordable K40 CO2 laser to market in 2014; user reports describe Orion Motor Tech as a Chinese manufacturer. In early 2020, OMTech Laser was founded as a US company in Anaheim (California); according to the FDA and the legal notice, the legal entity is Rygel Advanced Machines. From 2021, OMTech expanded to Canada and the UK, in 2022 to Germany, Spain, France and Italy, and in 2024 to Australia. The brand now operates under omtech.com and, besides lasers, also offers embroidery, DTF and UV printing technology. According to the manufacturer, over 183,000 customers use OMTech devices; revenue and employee figures are not published.
Customer support and warranty
OMTech offers support by phone and email from the USA (Monday to Friday, 7 am to 7 pm Pacific time) as well as through a ticket system; according to the manufacturer, buyers in its own shop get two free online support sessions. The German shop de.omtech.com lists a German phone number and the email support@omtechlaser.de; a German warehouse is not explicitly mentioned. According to the manufacturer, the warranty is 2 years on machines, 1 year on laser tubes and power supplies from 70 W as well as fibre laser sources, and 6 months on tubes and power supplies from 40 to 60 W. On Trustpilot, the older profile omtechlaser.com has 2.9 out of 5 stars from 470 reviews (as of October 2026), with complaints about support that is hard to reach and long waits for spare parts.
Environment and commitment
According to the manufacturer, OMTech runs an education programme with discounts and free consumables for schools and non-profit organisations, and names a donation of 4,000 USD to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Criticism and problems
In June 2024, OMTech recalled 641 desktop laser engravers (model DF0812-40BG) in the USA because, according to the FDA, redundant safety interlocks and mandatory warning and certification labels were missing (recall Z-2129-2024, Class 2). In March 2026, Germany reported a 40 W desktop laser, sold mainly through de.omtech.com, via the EU rapid alert system Safety Gate: the safety mechanisms were said to be easy to bypass, a base plate was missing, and the risk level was serious (eye damage); the manufacturer withdrew the product from the market. The German legal notice gives a US address and contains a placeholder instead of an authorised representative. Trustpilot reviews repeatedly complain of support that is hard to reach.
